Beck released “Ride Lonesome” on Friday 18 September, through Capitol Records. It’s his first full-length album since “Hyperspace”, from November 2019, produced by himself with mixing by Nigel Godrich.
He returns to working with musicians who played on “Sea Change”, “Morning Phase” and “Mutations”. “While we were returning to a musical and physical place, it also felt like we were finding new sounds and emotional textures along the way,” he says of the sessions.
The album arrives with the video for “Run Away”, the second track, directed by Mikai Karl and starring Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. Three previews had come before it: the title track, in April, “In The Night” in July and “Disappearing Act” in August.
The “Ride Lonesome” tour starts on 22 September at the Santa Barbara Bowl and ends in Portland on 10 November, with stops at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Red Rocks, San Francisco’s Masonic, Toronto’s Massey Hall and the Brooklyn Paramount. It’s entirely North American: no European dates have been announced.
