Bradford Cox, Deerhunter’s singer and guitarist, has released “Octoberland”, the first new song from his solo project Atlas Sound since “Parallax”, which came out in November 2011. The single reached streaming services on 30 October through 4AD, the label behind that album.

It’s one of the unreleased songs Cox debuted in September at the Making Time ∞ festival in Philadelphia, Atlas Sound’s first show in seven years. The lyrics, shared with the press release, mention “witches burning in vanilla smoke” and a virus that “flies every night”. Cox also directed the black-and-white video.

Three dates are already lined up for 2027. In April, a collaboration with fellow Deerhunter member Lockett Pundt at Big Ears in Knoxville; in May, Atlas Sound at Salt Lake City’s Kilby Block Party; and in June, Primavera Sound in Barcelona, whose main days run from 3 to 5 June at the Parc del Fòrum. When it unveiled its lineup, the festival called Cox “one of the artists who has performed at Primavera Sound more times than anyone else”.

Neither Cox nor 4AD has announced an album.
