Julia’s War · 30 October 2026
Shady Bug, an indie rock band from St. Louis, Missouri, who describe themselves on their website as “patchwork pop-gaze”, have released their third full-length, “I wanted to be there”. It came out on 30 October 2026 on the Julia’s War label. It has fourteen tracks, opening with “oh okay”, and is streaming in full on the band’s Bandcamp, where it’s available as a download. Scoops Dardaris recorded, mixed and co-produced it, and Greg Obis mastered it; the cover illustration is by Ines J and the layout by Jess Shoman. The lyrics are by Hannah Rainey, except for the parts Ripple sings on “oh okay”, “protect me” and “smokestacks”; “a truce” and “smokestacks” were written with Tyler Evans, and “my night routine”, “basket” and “high horse” with Aaron O’Neill. Delia Rainey sings on “basket”, and “sub dreams” was produced by Chris Chartrand.
The line-up is Hannah Rainey on guitar and vocals; Ripple on guitar, vocals, keys and tape; Chris Chartrand on bass, keys and tape; and Ingram Tolish on drums. Their two previous full-lengths are “tbh idk”, their debut, from 6 April 2017, and “Lemon Lime”, from 8 March 2019; between that and the new album came the EP “What’s The Use?”, released on 30 June 2023 on Exploding In Sound Records, with Jack Mideke on drums.
