PQR-Disques plusqueréel · 29 July 2026

The PQR-Disques plusqueréel label has reissued, as part of its US Prog Classics series, the only two albums by October, a Detroit band from the late seventies. It’s an archival reissue with no new material. The first, “October”, was recorded in November 1978 at Charisma Sounds Recording Studio in Dearborn, Michigan, and came out on LP in 1979 on Charisma Sound Records; it has seven tracks, from “Corean Holiday” to “Egyptian Lullaby”. The second, “After the Fall”, with six tracks, was self-released by the band on LP in 1980; according to the label, only a handful of copies were made.

The reissue came out on 29 July 2026 as a double CD with both albums, in a digipack limited to 300 copies with a twelve-page booklet (PQR058). The label had also announced a 180-gram vinyl edition of the first album for 15 September, also limited to 300 numbered copies in three colours, with “After the Fall” on a bonus CD (PQR054/55). According to the label, the band itself remastered the sound.

The line-up on “October” was Mark Krench on piano, electric piano, recorder and synths; Mark Sterling on synths (Minimoog, Micromoog, Moog Sonic Six and Elka Strings) and classical and acoustic guitars; Brad Tolinski, who also did the cover art, on violin and electric violin; Jeff Rozany on bass and vocals; and Pat Carson on drums and percussion. Jon A. Jarvis was executive producer and recording engineer. Among the band’s influences, the label’s notes cite King Crimson, Yes, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Miles Davis’s electric bands, as well as Bernard Herrmann, Stockhausen, Stravinsky, Wendy Carlos and Brian Eno. Only two tracks can be streamed on the label’s Bandcamp: “Egyptian Lullaby”, from the first album, and “Through the Light of Reason”, from the second.
