Dream Unending release “Certain Uncertainties” on 30 October through 20 Buck Spin, on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally. It is the third album by the duo of Derrick Vella, guitarist in Tomb Mold, who plays guitars and bass here, and Justin DeTore, of Innumerable Forms, Sumerlands and Magic Circle, who takes drums and vocals. There are six tracks, and “Strained Sincerity” is the first that can be heard.
Four guests appear. Leila Abdul-Rauf, of Vastum, plays trumpet, and Benny Grotto adds percussion, both on the title track; Dave Vella puts keyboards on “Rubato” and Brendan Radigan, of Magic Circle and Pagan Altar, sings on “I Carry Your Burden”. The other tracks are “Blinding Allure” and “Causal”.
Arthur Rizk recorded the drums at Solomon’s Gate — those on the title track were taped by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak — and he also mixed and mastered the record; guitars and bass are Sean Pearson’s at Boxcar Sound. The cover is by Benjamin Vierling, who had already illustrated the band’s two previous albums.
The label presents the record as a recording with fewer layers and a more direct delivery than the ones before it, with Vella’s guitar moving through blues, jazz and a progressive vocabulary. Dream Unending debuted with “Tide Turns Eternal” in 2021 and put out “Song of Salvation” in 2022; after that, in 2023, they signed the split “Starpath” with Worm.
