Great Falls, a Seattle trio, release “The Bite That Grows Up” on Friday 16 October through Neurot Recordings. “Debt Ethics” and “Nicotine In The Spine” are already out.
“The lyrics are based on an event that inspired the whole album. My child had continued to skip school and lie to us and, when confronted, decided to run away from home,” guitarist and singer Demian Johnston says of where “Debt Ethics” came from.
Scott Evans engineered it at Studio Litho in Seattle, the studio owned by Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard; Evans also mixed it at Antisleep and Brad Boatright mastered it at Audiosiege. John Schork, of Half Majesty, adds extra instrumentation.
“Nicotine In The Spine” carries a vocal by Peter Clement Lund, guitarist and singer in Danish band Kollapse, who died in May, before the record has even come out. It is among the last things he recorded.
Johnston, bassist Shane Mehling and drummer Nickolis Parks tour with Kowloon Walled City from 5 to 12 October through Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Youngstown, Brooklyn, Cambridge and Philadelphia, and in November they open two Neurosis shows, on the 27th in Portland and the 29th in Seattle. There are no European dates.
