Bad Brains release “Are You Ready: The First Studio Recording (Inner Ear – March 1979)” on Friday 6 November, six tracks that until now had only circulated as bootlegs. The label is Trust Records and the new mix is by Ian MacKaye, of Minor Threat and Fugazi.
The session was cut in an hour at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia, in March 1979, three months before the tapes that came out in 1996 as “Black Dots”. The six tracks are “Pay To Cum”, “Don’t Bother Me”, “Black Dots”, “Migraine”, “Send No Flowers” and “Jamming At The Atlantis”, and the first of them is already up.
Bassist Darryl Jenifer says the title “was just a fun-loving play on words” and traces the riff back to “punk rock vibes fueled by the Ramones, The Damned, and Return to Forever”.
Mastering is by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic. The release comes on vinyl, cassette and digital.
