Dhani Harrison and Nigel Godrich released “Dragonflies” on 18 September, the debut album by the duo of that name, through Dark Horse Records. It’s eight tracks: “Slower”, “Setting Sun”, “Straight Line”, “Heart Or Head”, “Ophelia”, “The Weight”, “In Between” and “End Of World”.
The project began with a call during lockdown: Harrison asked Godrich for advice on what would become “Innerstanding”, and the conversation turned into working together. Godrich invited him to his Brixton studio, and they started building songs out of tape loops.
“It’s like one person throws something up in the air and the other one catches it,” Godrich says of the method. Harrison adds: “It’s a machine. It has very clear ideas of what it wants to hear, and it makes me feel small. That’s what makes it such a new experience.”
Godrich was sound engineer on Radiohead’s “The Bends” and has produced their albums since “OK Computer”; he’s a founding member of Ultraísta and Atoms For Peace. Dark Horse is the label George Harrison founded in 1974.
