Krokofant release «7» on 27 November via Is It Jazz? Records, previewed by «Forwards».
Guitarist Tom Hasslan and saxophonist Jørgen Mathisen have decided to put out all the remaining material as a double record, in memory of drummer Axel Skalstad, who died in an accident on 9 June 2025, aged thirty-two. It’s seven tracks: «Forwards», «Devil Ship», «Backwards», «Metamorphosis», «Urge», «In the Phase» and «Oh Yes».
Of the first preview, the band say it’s «a simple, joyful song for the kids», with a bassline of suspended chords, a saxophone melody and their trademark riffing. It’s out digitally, on CD, and on double transparent blue vinyl with a gatefold sleeve, with art by Suka! Mabuk.
The trio formed in Kongsberg in 2011 and released five records on Rune Grammofon, from «Krokofant» (2014) to «Fifth» (2021). On «Q» (2019) they recorded with Ståle Storløkken on keyboards and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten on bass, the only time they ever stepped outside the trio format.
