Sony Music · 30 October 2026
Sony Music released “Slightly All The Time: Recordings 1970-1974” on 30 October 2026, a seventeen-disc Soft Machine box (fourteen CDs and three Blu-rays). It gathers the five albums the band made for CBS, from “Third” (1970) to “Seven” (1973), remastered from the original quarter-inch master tapes. Alongside them come all the band’s surviving BBC sessions, roughly half of them previously unreleased, and concerts including the Proms show at the Royal Albert Hall on 13 August 1970, the Radio Bremen concert of 23 March 1971 and Montreux in 1974.
The three Blu-rays collect television footage: the Paris concert of 1970, Brussels and the Berliner Jazztage in 1971, plus appearances on “Beat Club”, “Pop Deux” and “Full House” and the documentary “Anatomy of Pop”. The “Fifth” CD includes that album’s alternative sessions, recorded at Advision between November 1971 and February 1972, unreleased until now and newly mixed by Stephen W. Tayler. The box was compiled by Mark Powell, who runs Esoteric Recordings, and comes with a 64-page book featuring a new essay by Sid Smith.
