Queens of the Stone Age have released “Where The Goth Girls At?”, the third preview of “Perfecth”. The album comes out on Friday 30 October on Matador Records; it’s the band’s ninth studio record and the first since “In Times New Roman…” (2023). Production is by Josh Homme and bassist Michael Shuman.
The track opens on a minimal riff and widens out into a chorus carrying string and horn arrangements. Homme explains where the title comes from: “Watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at. Teenage love, ain’t it grand?” The song goes back to his adolescence in suburban Palm Desert.
The video is directed by Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, was shot in a disused power station, and features comedian Steve Agee, dancer Scarlett Kapella and singer and actress Lou Lou Safran alongside the band.
The two earlier previews of “Perfecth” are “Easy Street” and “Insignificant Other”. The album comes on CD, on black vinyl and on clear vinyl for independent retailers, plus a limited gatefold edition with handwritten lyrics and an envelope of stamps, sold only through the band’s and the label’s own web shops.
