Prize Horse have signed to Closed Casket Activities and announced it with “The Big Picture”. The Minneapolis trio came from New Morality Zine, the label that released their “Welder” EP in 2022 and their first full-length, “Under Sound”, in 2024.

The song is not new. “‘The Big Picture’ is the first song we wrote for the new record, with demos of it dating back to 2023,” they say. “Instrumentally, it’s a step into a darker, more brooding environment compared to ‘Under Sound’, and ends with one of the heaviest sections we’ve ever written.”

Neither the album’s title nor its date is known. Closed Casket is based in Troy, in New York state, and its catalogue is heavy hardcore — something Stereogum notes in reporting the news, because Prize Horse play shoegaze.

In the meantime the band have two runs of shows: the United States from 21 to 31 October with Graham Hunt, and Europe from 2 to 20 December with Spite House. The European leg takes in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom; the nearest date to here is 14 December at Supersonic in Paris.
