Seven songs, fifty-one minutes and forty-five seconds, and a formula that doesn’t budge. “Into Molecular” opens with the warm chords and clean production that set the terms for everything after it, and from there Tony Lowe — who plays guitar, bass, keyboards and programming — alternates melodic solos with keyboard flourishes while Mark Brzezicki pushes from the kit in a style rather more aggressive than the material asks for. Vocals and lyrics come from Peter Coyle, formerly of The Lotus Eaters.
It’s the third time the three have worked together, after “Velvet Crunch” (2025). It isn’t a concept album, but “Time Slips Sideways”, “Random Stars” and “Weightless” could swap places in the running order without the record noticing.
Six of the seven pieces stretch between six and ten minutes (“Imagination” runs nine fifty-nine) and only “A Beam of Light”, at four seventeen, breaks the pattern. Heard end to end, the record keeps the same stride throughout, and production this polished ends up underlining that rather than covering for it.
Lowe started ESP in 2015 as a vehicle for his own music and has put out ten or so records under the name since, often with well-known guests. Brzezicki gives the record the most and fits it the least: he comes out of Big Country and out of hitting things hard, and you can hear him holding back. “Extra Sensory Perception” came out on 26 June on Winterfold Records and closes with “The Feedback and the Fire”, eight minutes and forty-one seconds.
