Asia released their new album, “Indigo”, on Frontiers Music on 6 November, and it’s streaming in full now. It runs to sixteen tracks, including a three-part suite, “Tattoo Indigo”, and a second take on “Tattoo Indigo (Part 3)” featuring Mike Portnoy, which closes the record as a bonus track. It’s the band’s first studio album since “Gravitas”, released in March 2014.
The line-up is the one Geoff Downes put together after the 2023 tribute concert for John Wetton: Downes on keyboards, Harry Whitley on bass and lead vocals, John Mitchell on guitar and Virgil Donati on drums. The four toured through 2024 and 2025, and the album was recorded over the course of 2025. It’s produced by Downes and the band, with Mitchell handling the mix and the master. Asia are confirmed for Cruise to the Edge, running 2–8 April 2027.
Writing had begun in 2015 with John Wetton, who died in January 2017. Two of his final compositions are here: “Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)” and “Chesapeake Bay”, with Steve Howe plays acoustic guitar. “It was always in my mind that at some point it would be a shame not to finish off some of these songs and finally release them as part of an Asia album,” Downes says on the band’s website.
