Gaspar Claus releases “Cells” tomorrow through InFiné, five years after “Tancade”. The most recent track out is “Ecstasy”, with a video by Mathilde Cartoux shot between Paulilles and Banyuls.
“These sounds were transformed, put through machines, digitised, stretched, sometimes metamorphosed into synthetic textures or even percussion. So it’s not a meeting between cello and electronics, but rather a story of transformation,” Claus says.
He arranged and produced it with Basile Griselle (Basile3) and Adrian Bourget in a studio built for the job at Banyuls-sur-Mer, and David Chalmin mixed it. Matt Elliott, of The Third Eye Foundation, sings a text by Claus on “Cupidon”.
Another of the ten tracks is called “Colaïdo”, after the sailing boat that belonged to his father, the flamenco guitarist Pedro Soler, who died in August 2024. “Colaïdo is the name of a small sailboat my father bought on a whim one day, back when my sister and I were teenagers. It was on that boat that I learned to sail. The piece is infused with this memory, inevitably tinged with nostalgia,” Claus says.
