Wolfbrigade release “Howl From Underground” on Friday 9 October through Metal Blade Records. There are twelve tracks, and it is the Swedish band’s twelfth full-length counting the three they signed as Wolfpack between 1996 and 1999. “Doomrunner” is the second track to get a video, after “Cold War Bootlicker” in September.
Lawrence Mackrory produced it at Necromorbus Studio, a Baptist church converted into a recording room. “For the past decade we have recorded, produced and mixed our albums ourselves,” the band say; this time they handed the job to someone outside. Mackrory has worked with Meshuggah, Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Bloodbath.
David “Dadde” Stark is back too, having drummed for the band from 2002 to 2015. “Everything clicked straight away. The chemistry was still there,” the band say. The line-up is completed by Micke Dahl on vocals, Erik Norberg and Jocke Rydbjer on guitars and Johan Erkenvåg on bass.
Of the track they have put out, the band say this: “The universe owes us nothing. That’s where ‘Doomrunner’ begins. What keeps us going anyway? Maybe not hope. Maybe instinct.”
The remaining tracks are “Caveman Motherfuck”, “Howl From Underground”, “Born to Rot”, “When Dogs Cry”, “Cold War Bootlicker”, “Fat Man Hellscape”, “Headhunting”, “Cosmic Meatgrinder”, “Seeking Scapegoats”, “Man Is Wolf to Man” and “Tangled Steel Mask”. “‘Cold War Bootlicker’ is about false opposites. We divide the world into competing camps,” the band say of one of them. The cover photograph is by Therese Öhrvall, and the previous album, “Life Knife Death”, came out in 2024.
