Tom Morello and Serj Tankian played “Like A Stone” on Saturday 3 October at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, and dedicated it to Chris Cornell. The pro-shot video of the moment has now been released.
The song comes from Audioslave’s 2002 debut, the band Cornell formed with Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk when Rage Against The Machine went quiet. Cornell died on 18 May 2017, in Detroit, hours after a show.
It was at Power To The People, the first edition of the festival Morello curates, which also featured Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Joan Baez, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike and Dave Matthews. Tankian had a set of his own on the bill.
It is not the first time the two have played it together: they did it, also for Cornell, at Sonic Temple in Columbus on 17 May 2019, during Morello’s set, and before that in 2018 in Auckland with Prophets of Rage.
