The Sweet Relief Musicians Fund opened the Richie Cipriano Fund on Friday, a fundraiser for the Sick Of It All bassist, who has pancreatic cancer.

“Richie Cip, born Richard Cipriano, helped shape the sound of New York Hardcore as the bassist for Sick of It All during the band’s formative years,” the organisation’s page says. He plays on the first demo, on the seven-inch Revelation put out in 1987 and on the debut album, “Blood, Sweat and No Tears”, which In-Effect, Relativity’s hardcore label, released in 1989.

He left the band in early 1993, replaced by Craig Setari, who is still there. In 1996 he founded Reach 454, already on guitar, who were signed by Lava/Atlantic, and he now plays guitar in War Orphan.

Sweet Relief gives grants for medical and vital living expenses: insurance premiums, prescriptions, medical treatment and operative procedures, housing, food and utilities. The Revelation Records store is selling a benefit shirt, and donations go through sweetrelief.org.
