Four bands at Razzmatazz 2, with New York’s Suffocation headlining

Suffocation, Ingested, Undeath and Eternal play Razzmatazz 2 on Sunday 25 October. Doors open at six in the evening, tickets cost 35 €, and the promoter is Madness Live.

New York’s Suffocation top the bill with “Hymns from the Apocrypha”, the first album with Ricky Myers as lead vocalist following Frank Mullen’s retirement. Britain’s Ingested bring the genre’s most brutal edge, and America’s Undeath belong to the crop that has turned back toward early-nineties death metal. Eternal round out the night.

“Effigy of the Forgotten”, from 1991, is the Suffocation album that set much of technical death metal’s vocabulary: abrupt tempo changes, dissonance as a structural element, and the “breakdown” that later crossed over into hardcore. The band split in 1998 and reunited in 2002, and hasn’t stopped recording or touring since.
