Skinshape is the project of British composer and producer William Dorey, and in November he will arrive with the record barely out: “Chapman’s Pool”, eleven tracks due on 30 October on Lewis Recordings, three weeks before the show. He wrote, produced, recorded and mixed it himself at his studio in Finsbury Park, north London, with only the mastering done elsewhere; there are field recordings inside it, among them the sound of the waves at Chapman’s Pool, the stretch of Dorset coast the album is named after.

Tom Blunt plays drums, with Dan Hale on two tracks, and “Last Dance” carries string and brass sections alongside the voices of Maddy Brodrick, Keziah Hodgson and Athena Evangelou-Wilson. “Bye Bye Addis” has Ruta Sipola on flute.

Dorey was a founding member of Palace and runs his own reggae label, Horus Records, which started out reissuing Jamaican records from the sixties and seventies and now also puts out original productions. Skinshape’s material mixes funk, reggae, psychedelic rock, folk, African music and library music from those two decades.

Dorey made it alone in Finsbury Park; at La (2) he brings a five-piece band.
