Kiki Morente and Lagartija Nick play “Omega” at the Palau de la Música Catalana on Friday 30 October at half past nine. Tickets run from 38 € to 78 €, and the night counts both for the 58th Barcelona Jazz Festival and for De Cajón!, the flamenco festival The Project also programmes.
“Omega” is the record Enrique Morente made in 1996 with the Granada rock band, setting poems from Federico García Lorca’s “Poeta en Nueva York” and songs by Leonard Cohen. At the Palau they play it almost in full, adding the tracks that were left off the release.
Kiki Morente, Enrique’s son, sings it; in 1996 he was a child at home while it was being recorded. Lagartija Nick field Antonio Arias on bass and vocals, Juan Codorniu on guitar and vocals, Eric Jiménez on drums and Juan José Machuca on keyboards. Israel Galván dances and choreographs; Víctor Martínez is musical director and Verónica Morales directs the staging. There are percussion, backing vocals and palmas too.
The two listings do not agree on the guests: The Project announces Israel Galván and Sílvia Pérez Cruz, the Palau announces Israel Galván and Antonio Rey. The official poster credits Galván alone. Under-sixteens must be accompanied and bring a printed liability form.
