Guitarist Niño Josele plays the Conservatori del Liceu on Saturday 14 November at 8.30pm, as part of the 58th Barcelona Jazz Festival. The show is called “20 años de Paz”: twenty years on, Josele returns to “Paz”, the 2006 album on which his flamenco guitar sang the pieces Bill Evans played on piano.
According to the festival’s page, it was Bebo Valdés, a regular player of “Waltz for Debby”, who first pointed him towards Evans. The album was co-produced by filmmaker Fernando Trueba, who has now made “Bajañí”, a film about the journey of flamenco guitar starring Josele, with Rubén Blades, Marisa Monte and Caetano Veloso among the guests. The festival says it premieres a few weeks before the concert.
He’s joined by Manel Fortià on double bass and Daniel García Bruno on drums, with trumpeter Raynald Colom as special guest. The concert is also part of De Cajón! Festival Flamenco de Barcelona.
On the same day, at 4.30pm, Josele gives a masterclass at the Conservatori: concert tickets come with a code for free entry. Amics del Jazz members get 15% off. Neither page lists the ticket price.
