Geordie Greep will not play Barcelona on 23 November. Estrella Galicia, which backed the British musician’s three Spanish dates through its SON series, has cancelled them and told ticket holders by email via DICE, the platform the tickets were sold on. Oviedo, on 13 November at Kuivi Almacenes, and Madrid, on the 22nd at Sala Galileo Galilei, fall with it.
The email, made public by a ticket holder on 20 October, gives no reasons: it cites “weighty reasons”, points to an attached article and says the money will be refunded.
That article is the report US magazine Paste published carrying the account of the woman who accuses Greep of sexual assault. The allegation surfaced on 8 October in Vancouver, during a show of his: flyers naming him were handed out, and he came on stage two hours late, alone and without his band, to address it. He said that at a party the night before he had made an advance on a woman and that it had not worked — “I made a move and it didn’t come off” — and denied the gravest part: “I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist.” He played ten songs solo and cancelled the rest of the North American tour.
After the report, Greep gave his own account of that night: “Throughout the night I had — I now realise mistakenly and stupidly — believed that she was interested in me. I went over to her and leaned down to kiss her. I kissed her once and she immediately responded negatively and pushed me away. I apologised and stepped away.”
Greep, formerly the singer and guitarist of black midi, was touring “The New Sound”, the album he released on 4 October 2024 on Rough Trade. The Barcelona night was at Sala Upload, at half past eight.
His artist page on DICE no longer lists any dates. Sala Upload’s own listing, by contrast, still advertises the show as sold out, and neither the SON series nor the musician has issued a statement of their own.
