Guitarist Ben Haugg and keyboard player Freddy Ruckert are leaving Disillusion. The Leipzig band announced it on 3 October in a long statement that includes words from both of them.

Haugg joined in 2016, so he goes after ten years. Ruckert’s path with the band started in 2018 and grew gradually until he was confirmed as an official member in 2023.

“These decisions did not happen overnight,” the statement says. “They developed over a longer time, through many open conversations about where each of us stands and how it should continue.” No other reason is given.

That leaves Andy Schmidt — vocals and guitar, and the only one there since the start in 1994 — bassist Robby Kranz and drummer Martin Schulz. The band say every announced show will go ahead as planned and that they are already preparing what comes next.

Disillusion’s last album is “AYAM” (Prophecy Productions, 2022), which reached number 35 in Germany, the highest they have ever charted.
