Deep Purple didn’t play Leipzig’s QI Arena on 31 October, and they won’t play Hamburg’s Sporthalle tonight, 1 November, either. The band announced it on social media the same day: “This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation.” No cause has been given.
“We understand that this announcement comes at short notice and share the disappointment of all our wonderful fans,” the statement goes on. The band are already looking for new dates for both shows, and tickets already purchased remain valid for the rescheduled dates.
On the band’s website, both nights are listed as postponed, while the next four dates of the German run are still on sale: Dortmund on 3 November, Berlin on the 4th, Frankfurt on the 6th and Nuremberg on the 7th.
Gillan is 81. The tour is in support of “Splat!”, the band’s 24th studio album, released on 3 July on earMUSIC and produced by Bob Ezrin.
