Deafheaven played “Hunter” live for the first time on Friday 2 October in Chicago. The song belongs to their new EP, for which the band has given neither a title nor a release date. A limited run of physical copies was on sale at the show.

Guitarist Kerry McCoy had talked about it in September to the Spanish site Binaural: he said the EP will be by far the heaviest thing they have made — well past “Lonely People With Power” (2025) — and the closest they have come to black metal. Those remarks went through Spanish and back into English, so the exact wording cannot be given.

The band is supporting Mastodon on the Poisonous Weapons Tour across North America, with Alcest on the same bill, through the end of October.

Only fan-shot video of the Chicago show has circulated.
