Caspian have set a date for their sixth full-length, self-titled record: it’s out 16 October via Wax Bodega. The preview is «Remain», a nine-minute track, and it’s the first new material from the Beverly, Massachusetts band since «On Circles» (2020).
It’s six songs and thirty-nine minutes: «Hiraeth», «Far Country», «Remain», «A Great Fire», «No One Left to Tell» and «Waltz for the End». It was produced by Brett Romnes. The current line-up is Philip Jamieson on guitar and synths, Calvin Joss and Jonny Ashburn on guitars, Jani Zubkovs on bass and Justin Forrest on drums.
Jamieson describes the record as «a process of self-discovery and accepting the decisions we’ve made and the people we are». The band say they went looking for simpler structures and recorded the album thinking of themselves, the five of them, first.
The quintet formed in Beverly in 2003 and started out with the EP «You Are the Conductor» (2005), followed by «The Four Trees» (2007), «Tertia» (2009), «Waking Season» (2012), «Dust and Disquiet» (2015) and «On Circles» (2020). Founding bassist Chris Friedrich died in August 2013, aged thirty-two; his last recording with the band, «Hymn for the Greatest Generation», came out that November.
The European tour is seventeen shows between 15 and 31 October, kicking off at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds and wrapping up at Roisin Dubh in Galway, with stops in Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Paris, Nijmegen, Cologne, Wiesbaden, Dresden, Prague, Vienna, Ljubljana, Milan, Breda, London and Dublin. No dates in Spain. In December they play Saint Vitus in Brooklyn on the 3rd and Paradise in Boston on the 4th.
