Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath arrive in cinemas worldwide on 28 October with «Back to the Beginning», the film of the farewell concert they played at Villa Park. It’s a limited-run screening, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing and produced by Mercury Studios.
The concert took place on 5 July 2025 at Aston Villa’s stadium, in Birmingham, the city all four are from. It was the last time Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward played together, and the last time Osbourne sang live: he died seventeen days later, aged seventy-six.
That day’s bill included Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Halestorm and Rival Sons, with guests including Steven Tyler, Ronnie Wood and Sammy Hagar joining in. The film covers a selection of it.
«Back to the Beginning came out of asking Ozzy what would really make him happy,» explains Sharon Osbourne. «And he told me the only thing that would make him happy was being able to perform again and say goodbye to his fans.»
Direction for the screen is by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, who’d previously directed the Taylor Swift tour film and the George Michael one, with live direction by Tim van Someren. «For the band it was closure, and I think it was a good way to go out,» says Iommi.
Tickets go on sale Thursday 24 September at 4pm, Catalan time, at backtothebeginning.com. Nothing has been said yet about the film’s runtime.
