Svaneborg Kardyb, the duo of keyboardist Nikolaj Svaneborg and drummer Jonas Kardyb, play Razzmatazz’s Sala 3 on Tuesday 17 November at 9pm, as part of the microdosis series. Advance tickets are €27.50.
They’re bringing “Superkilen”, their latest album, which Gondwana Records released on 18 October 2024. It’s named after a park in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro district that the art group Superflex built on a strip of waste ground in the early 2010s, as a place where locals and newcomers could meet.
There are only two of them: Svaneborg moves between Wurlitzer, a Juno synth and piano, while Kardyb covers all the drums and percussion. When they describe where their sound comes from in the album notes, they point to Danish folk music, Nils Frahm, Esbjörn Svensson and Jan Johansson’s “Jazz på svenska”.
In 2019 they won two prizes at the Danish Music Awards Jazz: new artist and composer of the year. Before “Superkilen” they released “Knob” (2019), “Haven” (2020) and “Over Tage” (2022), the last of which was their first for Gondwana, also home to Matthew Halsall, Portico Quartet and Mammal Hands. Last year they put out two singles, “Flox Gade” and “Illusions”, and they haven’t announced a new album yet.
