“Cathedral Speech”, the third full-length album by Portland, Oregon, black metal duo Spirit Possession, came out on 2 October 2026 on Profound Lore Records and, in Europe, on Sepulchral Voice Records. It has seven tracks: four pieces, from “Cathedral Speech” to “The Sharpening”, and a closing side-long suite split into three tracks, “First Levitation”, “Second Liturgy” and “Trinity Possessor”, whose bracketed subtitles spell out a single sentence: “Accursed Entrances… Impossible Exits… In Ten Thousand Hells”. It was recorded at the S•P Dungeon, and Colin Marston reamped, mixed and mastered it at The New Menegroth. The choral vocals on the title track are by A. Vidal and G. Cooper; the cover art is by Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos and the design by Dan Fried.
The duo is S. Peacock on strings and vocals, who also plays in Black Curse, Ulthar and Mastery, and A. Spungin on drums and handmade synthesizers, who is also in Ormus. The album arrives three and a half years after “Of The Sign…”, their second, released on 31 March 2023; the first, “Spirit Possession”, had come out on 24 July 2020. In between, in 2025, the band gathered its 2019 demos on “Demos Of Knives”, on vinyl and cassette.
