David Reece to sing with Accept again 37 years on, in Oberhausen and Milan

Wolf Hoffmann, guitarist and the only founding member still in Accept

David Reece, Accept’s singer on 1989’s “Eat The Heat”, will join the band on stage at two dates on the “Teutonic Titans” 50th-anniversary tour: on 21 November at the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, Germany, and on 2 December at Alcatraz in Milan. He’ll sing a few songs. So far he has named only one, “Hellhammer”, which he treats as a given.

Reece was speaking to Jimmy Kay of The Metal Voice. He lives in Italy, hence Milan; the Oberhausen date was confirmed to him the day before the interview. The invitation came by email in August, while he was playing a festival in Bulgaria. Wolf Hoffmann wrote: “Hi, David. How are you? I wonder if you’d be interested. I’d be very honored if you would join Accept live and perform some songs with us on this upcoming ‘Teutonic Titans’ tour.” “I think I almost broke into tears,” Reece says.

Reece fronted Accept from February 1988 to August 1989. His time in the band ended midway through the “Eat The Heat” tour, after he slapped bassist Peter Baltes in Chicago. In 2015 he put it this way: “It was the wrong decision and I regret it.” In September, Hoffmann said the band had invited every original member to appear on the 50th-anniversary album and that none had wanted to. Reece, who wasn’t one, says he wasn’t contacted.

The tour runs to twenty-four dates between 19 November and 20 December, with Mark Tornillo on vocals, and stops in Valencia on 27 November and Madrid on the 28th. There’s no Catalan date.
