The Cro-Mags have released a new version of “It’s The Limit” with Turnstile guitarist Meg Mills as a guest. It is an advance from “Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel”, out on 13 November through BLKIIBLK: a full re-recording of their 1986 debut, with “Everybody’s Gonna Die”, from the 1985 demo, added at the end.
The idea did not start as an anniversary record. Harley Flanagan, bassist, singer and founder, says the re-recording came out of the documentary “Wired for Chaos”: the original recordings could not be licensed for the soundtrack, and several songs had to be remade. “To honor ‘The Age of Quarrel,’ I reunited friends, current band members and musicians from other groups to celebrate these songs that have meant so much to many people, including myself,” he says.
Playing on it are Doug Holland, a guitarist from the original era, Rocky George (ex-Suicidal Tendencies), Zach Blair (Rise Against), Dave Sharpe and drummer Greyson Nekrutman. Arthur Rizk, who has worked with Power Trip and Blood Incantation, produces and mixes. Mills has called playing on it an honour and named “The Age of Quarrel” one of the records that made her want to start a band.
Flanagan says the songwriting credits will finally be paid out: “Forty years later, everyone who wrote these songs will finally be paid through ASCAP and BMI,” with the remaining proceeds going to charity.
