Marika Hackman has announced “False Dogs”, her fifth album, out on 19 February 2027 through Chrysalis Records, and has released its opening track, “33”. It is her first since “Big Sigh”, from January 2024.

She wrote, produced and arranged it on her own, and plays almost every instrument on it: guitars, piano, drums, bass, mandolin and synth. She began it at her east London studio and finished it at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate, a converted chapel, with Charlie Andrew — a previous collaborator — and Polly Mackey, who records as Art School Girlfriend. What was going on outside has ended up inside it: field recordings of the Kent shoreline, fireworks and church bells. David Wrench mixed it.

“I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges,” Hackman says. Of “33” she says it “grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between”, and adds: “Keep pushing, it’s worth it.”

The tour opens on 26 February at London’s Royal Festival Hall and takes in twelve dates, four in the UK and eight on the continent: Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen and Stockholm. There are no Spanish dates.
