The seven-inch that comes with the signed edition of the book “Van Halen” will carry “Glitter”, a 1974 demo that has never been released. Genesis Publications, which publishes it, has announced it, and it will be the earliest Van Halen recording ever officially released.

“Glitter” features Alex and Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth and Mark Stone, the band’s first bassist. The record is a picture disc made specifically for this edition, with artwork based on the band’s 1984 tour design, and the other side carries a spoken-word excerpt from Alex Van Halen drawn from the new interviews he did for the book.

The book is the official chronicle of the band: Alex Van Halen writes it, curates it and signs it, and Genesis is issuing it in an edition of fifteen hundred signed and numbered copies worldwide, drawing on the drummer’s private archive, opened for the first time.

“Beyond The Stage” has also been released: a conversation between Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth and the painter Robert Vargas about the creative process, following on from the talk they gave at TEDxFargo under the title “Why Great Art Requires Risk”.
