Sixteen minutes eleven for six songs: “(Re)planted” is an EP and makes no attempt to hide it. Midori Jaeger plays cello and sings, and the production leaves empty space around each element, so that the plucked strings, the voice and the little else that is there are heard separately rather than as a mass. She self-released it on 26 August. “lungs”, the closer, is the longest at three fifty-eight.
The way the cello is plucked works as a clock on “planted” (two fifty-six) and as rain on “hunted” (three forty-two), and it is that rhythmic function, rather than the melodic one, that holds the EP up; the voice sits on top with little reverb. The lyrics deal with nature, time and dreams, and one line sums up the tone of the whole thing: “time has a scent / it’s on all of our clothes”. Jaeger has explained that the cello was once a living tree pulled out of the earth and that she herself grew up across different continents, and the diptych (“(Un)planted” in March, “(Re)planted” in August) comes from there.
Two of the six songs are notes rather than pieces: “or” runs fifty-one seconds and “wait” one twenty-one, and together they do not make two and a half of the sixteen minutes. On a record that stakes everything on the listener’s patience, putting in two sketches leaves the EP halfway between a notebook and an album; the remaining four songs stand on their own, and would have stood better with two more of the same kind. “(Un)planted”, the first half, came out on 9 March 2026 with five tracks; before that came the EPs “Look at Us” (2020) and “See Touch Kick and Sweat” (2021), both self-released.
