Teenage Fanclub play Room 2 at Razzmatazz on Saturday 17 October. Doors are at 19:00 and the concert starts at 20:30. Tickets are €34 plus booking fee. Houston Party and Just Life Music are promoting it.
It is the last of twelve Spanish dates and the only Catalan one. The run opened on 4 October in San Fernando and has taken in Seville, Granada, Murcia, Santiago de Compostela, Oviedo, Bilbao and Zaragoza; Pamplona (14th), Madrid (15th) and Valencia (16th) are the three dates immediately before, on a thirty-five-city European tour.
They arrive with “Do Not Dare To Dream”, out on 9 October through Merge Records: eight days before the show. It is their thirteenth album and the third without Gerard Love, who left in 2018. There are ten songs — “There Was You”, “Tomorrow People”, “Over And Over”, “Be With You Tonight”, “The Same Air”, “I Do Not Dare To Dream”, “Take Time”, “Day In The Sun”, “Somewhere To Land” and “Young And Wise” — split evenly between Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley, five each.
The bulk of the record was cut at Black Bay Studio on Great Bernera, in the Outer Hebrides, with vocals and overdubs done in Glasgow; Cal Roden, David Henderson and Pete Fletcher engineered it, and Dexter George mixed and mastered it. The title comes from a Blake song about the insistence of self-help messaging telling you to dare to dream, something he finds ridiculous.
The band formed in Bellshill in 1989 and today there are five of them: Blake and McGinley on guitars and vocals, Francis Macdonald on drums, Dave McGowan on bass and Euros Childs on keyboards. Razzmatazz has not said who opens the night.
