Cursive have premiered “Wounded Animal”, a track from the soundtrack to “Who’s Watching”, the film written and directed by their singer, Tim Kasher. The record is out on 30 October through the band’s own label, 15 Passenger, and has thirteen songs.
“Wounded Animal” is the full-band version of the instrumental theme that runs through the film. Side A is given over to the songs of Toxic Cock Syndrome, the fictional group in it: they are played by Kasher on guitar and backing vocals, Isaiah Radke of Radkey on vocals, Darrion Lewis on guitar, Jonah Ray on drums and Josh Ethier on bass. Side B is the score: five instrumentals, the acoustic “Wounded Animal” and, to close, the full-band one.
“Who’s Watching” is a psychological horror film about the male gaze and the clichés of the stalker: a musician and would-be film-maker becomes obsessed with a co-worker and secretly documents her life to make a film of it. Zachary Ray Sherman, who plays him, won best actor at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival; Gracie Gillam, Olivia Luccardi and Steve Berg are also in it.
The last music the Omaha band put out was “Devourer”, their tenth album, from 2024.
