Insomnium

This Finnish band was born in the cold city of Joensuu in 1997, and has since become a force of nature in melodic metal and melodic death metal.

The original line-up included Ville Friman (guitar and vocals), Niilo Sevänen (bass and vocals), Markus Hirvonen (drums) and Tapani Pesonen (guitar). Over time there were some changes, and now, alongside Friman, Sevänen and Hirvonen, the line-up includes Markus Vanhala on guitar and vocals.

What makes them special? Well, beyond the unique combination of growled and clean vocals mentioned above, Insomnium have managed to forge a sound that captures the essence of the Finnish winter. Each album is like a new expedition through the darkness and beauty of life.
