Dave Douglas Gifts Trio

Dave Douglas is a leading American jazz trumpeter, widely recognised and respected on the music scene.

Dave Douglas was born on 24 March 1963 in Montclair, New Jersey, United States. He began playing trumpet at an early age and showed great talent from the start. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston before continuing his musical education in New York, where he immersed himself in the city’s jazz scene.

Throughout his career, Dave Douglas has worked with a wide range of leading musicians and has led numerous bands and projects. He is known for a versatile style spanning traditional jazz to avant-garde and experimental improvisation. His compositions often draw on elements from different musical genres, earning him a reputation as one of the most innovative trumpeters in contemporary jazz.

Dave Douglas has recorded numerous albums as a leader and has collaborated with artists including John Zorn, John Scofield, Bill Frisell and Mary Halvorson, among others. He has received multiple awards throughout his career, including a Grammy.

As well as being an outstanding performer, Douglas is also a prolific composer and has written music for a wide range of projects, including film scores, theatre and dance.

His influence on contemporary music is undeniable, and Dave Douglas remains an influential figure on the jazz scene, continuing to innovate and explore new horizons in music.

The trumpeter now returns to Barcelona with a new line-up, the Gifts Trio, alongside two members of Son Lux, the trio behind the soundtrack for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”: guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang. Inspired by the life and music of Charles Lloyd, and by the saxophonist’s own fascination with the music of Billy Strayhorn, the trio explores the song format, multiplying textures to create the very particular atmospheres that the trumpet-guitar-drums combination offers. Hugely looking forward to hearing this new adventure from an insatiable musician.
