Clarinettist and saxophonist Louis Ford plays Jamboree on Thursday 1 October with his New Orleans Flairs and banjo player Carlos Childe. There are two sets, at 19:00 and 20:30, tickets cost 25 €, and both shows are listed as sold out.
Ford is the fifth generation of musicians in his New Orleans family. His father, Clarence Ford, played saxophone with Fats Domino for thirty years. According to Jamboree, he studied with Ellis Marsalis and Kidd Jordan at Loyola University, where he graduated in music education. He’s part of the Preservation Hall Legacy Program, through which the French Quarter venue’s foundation financially supports its veteran house musicians. He has accompanied Harry Connick Jr., Danny Barker and Wallace Davenport.
At Jamboree he arrives with a quintet: Ford on clarinet, saxophone and vocals, Childe on banjo and also singing, Hector Oliveira on double bass, David Herrington on trumpet and Fer Lamas on drums. It’s the classic New Orleans jazz line-up, from before the piano took centre stage, with the banjo marking the harmony and the horns improvising together.
Sala 3 isn’t Jamboree’s historic cellar but the room the club opened in 2022 on the same Plaça Reial, with a side stage and, unlike Sala 1, wheelchair-accessible entry. The club does not accept ticket exchanges or refunds.
