Thomas Miller, Symphony X’s founding bassist, releases the self-titled debut record from Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect on 30 October via Sensory Records. He’s previewed «Closer To The Sun», the second single after «When Darkness Falls».
Miller formed Symphony X in 1994 with guitarist Michael Romeo, whom he’d met eight years earlier in New Jersey, and played on the band’s first four records — from the self-titled debut through to «Twilight In Olympus» — before leaving in 1999 for personal reasons.
The new project grew out of a 2017 collaboration with singer Howard «Hollywood How» Portney, who provides the vocals. Two former Symphony X bandmates, Romeo and keyboardist Michael Pinnella, ended up playing on it too, and mixing and mastering is by Eric Rachel, who according to the label produced the band’s first six records.
It’s forty-nine minutes. «‘Closer To The Sun’ goes down a more progressive path than the first single,» says Miller.
