Green Lung released «Necropolitan» on 11 September via Nuclear Blast, their fourth record. The same day they premiered the visualiser for «Dance to the Grave», a macabre dance animated by Joseph Brett based on illustrations by Richard Wells.
The title comes from the Magnificent Seven, the seven garden cemeteries the Victorians opened in a ring around London: Highgate, Kensal Green, West Norwood, Abney Park, Brompton, Tower Hamlets and Nunhead. The cover art lists them one by one along the border and adds the legend «Being the Secret History of the Seven Cemeteries». It also brings in the Necropolis Railway, the line that between 1854 and 1941 carried the dead from Waterloo to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey.
«We had to make a London record, and the Magnificent Seven cemeteries had always fascinated me,» singer Tom Templar told Kerrang!, revealing that at twenty he’d tried writing a novel about them.
The record was recorded in January 2026 at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, produced and mixed by Tom Dalgety, engineered by Tim Lewis and mastered by Robin Schmidt. It’s nine tracks, from «Open the Hellmouth» to «To the Gallows Born». The field recordings are Templar’s own; outside contributions include Riley Pinkerton, who narrates «Alostrael», and the ritual choir on «Black Magick Radio».
The band formed in London in 2017 and released «Woodland Rites» (2019) and «Black Harvest» (2021) before signing to Nuclear Blast, the label that put out «This Heathen Land» (2023). The current line-up is Tom Templar on vocals, Scott Black on guitar, Joseph Ghast on bass, John Wright on keyboards and Matt Wiseman on drums.
Between 11 and 14 September the band are signing records at Rough Trade East in London, HMV in Manchester, HMV Vault in Birmingham and Rough Trade in Bristol. In December they tour Europe with High On Fire and Gnome, from the 3rd to the 20th, with stops in Belgium, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Ireland; the Bristol date is sold out. No shows have been announced in Spain.
