Wolves In The Throne Room release “Estuary” on 23 October and have shared the title track, which opens the record, with a video. It runs to six tracks and the band produce it themselves.
The bulk was recorded at Owl Lodge, the band’s own studio in Olympia, Washington. The drums were not: Nicholas Wilbur tracked those at The Unknown, a former church converted into a studio in Anacortes. Galen Baudhuin, until now the band’s touring bassist, plays bass here, having come from Aridus and Street Tombs.
“Our new LP Estuary is set 1000 years in the future after the end of civilization,” says singer and guitarist Nathan Weaver. “Survivors of a cataclysm wander the haunted ruins. It is a world of mutant creatures and open portals.” The title comes from there: if wilderness overcame the cities, Weaver says, the estuaries would be the points where magic takes on physical form.
“Ghosts Among The Obelisks”, released in August, is also on the record. The band tour Europe from 21 October to 14 November, twenty-two dates running from Athens to Oslo by way of Samhain in Maastricht, Bruges is Doomed and Damnation in Manchester, with nothing in Spain. In January they play Fire In The Mountains in Estes Park, Colorado, on 15-17.
