Sue Foley releases «alone (together) A Holiday Companion» on 30 October, an eight-track Christmas record that closes with a cover of AC/DC’s «Ride On».
«I made this record for people who struggle with the holidays, especially those spending them alone. It’s meant to keep you company,» says the guitarist. On the closing cover, she explains: «‘Ride On’ is AC/DC from the Bon Scott era, but underneath it’s straight-up blues. We wanted to pull it towards Jimmy Reed.» The original track is from 1976’s «Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap».
The album is out via FOMZ with Guitar Woman Records and KNKY Works, recorded at KNKY Recordings in Dripping Springs, Texas, and produced by Foley with Michael Zschoche. Jacob Sciba mixed it at Arlyn Studios in Austin, and Howie Weinberg handled the mastering. The band features Jon Penner on bass, Reo Casey on guitar and keys, and Arjuna Contreras on drums, with Chris Hunter on drums and percussion on three tracks.
Alongside the seasonal material are the seven-minute «Just Another Day» and a cha-cha-flavoured «Jingle Blues». Foley’s previous album, «One Guitar Woman», was Grammy-nominated.
