Chuck Billy publishes “Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments of Chuck Billy” on 10 November, written with Dave Erickson and issued by Permuted Press.
The book comes in two halves. The Old Testament is the birth of Bay Area thrash and the formation of Testament; the New Testament starts with the cancer he was diagnosed with at thirty-eight, and takes in the singer’s Native American and Mexican-American heritage, the spiritual practices he turned to and the Thrash of the Titans benefit show.
“This book is about two versions of me that are really just one story,” Billy says. “The guy who thought he was invincible, and the guy who learned how fragile life really is.”
There are three signings: 29 October at Changing Hands bookshop in Phoenix, 10 November in Seal Beach with Jose Mangin and Brian Posehn, and 14 November at the Metal Community Bar in Dublin, California, with Phil and Marta Demmel. No page count has been given.
