“Cradle of the Rotten, Shrine to Those Most Foul” comes out on 22 January 2027 on Metal Blade. It is Celestial Sanctuary’s third album and the first they put out on that label, which signed them in October 2024: the two earlier records —“Soul Diminished”, from March 2021, and “Insatiable Thirst for Torment”, from August 2023— came out on Church Road.

There are nine tracks: “Where the Blood Flows”, “Bonestorm”, “They Worm Their Way In”, “Cradle of the Rotten”, “Shrine to Those Most Foul”, “Enter the Sanctuary”, “Lashed by Chain”, “A Dogged Act” and “Subhuman Scum”. The single is “Lashed By Chain”, with a video.

“This was the first song to be written for this album and an immediate statement of intent for what to expect,” vocalist and guitarist Tomas Cronin says of the track. The band frame the record as a stripping back: they say the intention was to refine what “this Celestial Sanctuary thing” actually is, filtering out the rubbish and ignoring trends and what people expect of them.

The group formed in 2019 in Cambridge, and it is completed by Jay Rutterford on bass, Matt Adnett on second guitar and James Burke on drums.
