Apocalyptica hold three RIAA certifications in the United States, the first of their career, all three awarded on 1 December last year: gold for “Worlds Collide”, the 2007 album; gold for the single “Not Strong Enough” with Brent Smith, which is from 2010’s “7th Symphony”; and double platinum for “I Don’t Care”, the Adam Gontier track that came out on “Worlds Collide”.

“What a ride it has been,” the band said in their statement at the time. “It took us a while to reach this, but that just shows that we’re a band that prefers to keep a steady pace — perhaps not the fastest, but patient and determined.” They thank Gontier and Smith, producers Jacob Hellner and Howard Benson, and the guests on those records: Corey Taylor, Cristina Scabbia, Till Lindemann, Dave Lombardo, Tomoyasu Hotei and Doug Robb.

The three cellists are midway through the “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” tour of Latin America: this week they play Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile, and in January they return for seven more dates, from Monterrey and Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional to Tegucigalpa, Guatemala City, San Salvador, San José and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
