TPR Records · 30 October 2026

“Water Pistols at Dawn” is the first album by drummer Ernesto Cervini’s new quartet, with Kae Murphy on trumpet and EVI (electronic valve instrument), Andrew Marzotto on guitar and Mark Godfrey on bass. It came out on 30 October 2026 on TPR Records, on CD, vinyl and digital, and the whole album is streaming on his Bandcamp.

Six tracks find room for Glenn Miller, Thelonious Monk and The Smile: new arrangements of “Moonlight Serenade”, “Evidence” and “Free in the Knowledge”, alongside three Cervini originals, “Waiting for a Win”, “Water Pistols at Dawn” and “A Resonant Space”. “Waiting for a Win” came out ahead of the album as the first single on 2 October. The Bandcamp notes describe it as an intergenerational quartet and list Radiohead, The Smile, Avishai Cohen, Nir Felder, The Bad Plus and Pat Metheny among the band’s touchstones.

It was recorded on 8 February 2026 at Revolution Recording with engineer David Hermiston, who also edited and mixed it; Nate Wood mastered it, and Oded Lev-Ari and Cervini himself produced it (catalogue number TPR-0020). Cover and design are by Yesim Tosuner, photography by Dahlia Katz.

According to his Bandcamp, Cervini’s previous album was “A Canadian Songbook”, a sextet record released on 8 March 2024, also on TPR Records. His website lists two launch shows for the quartet in Ontario: on 3 November at the Tranzac Club in Toronto and on 7 November at the Jazz Room in Waterloo.
