Dissimulator release “Artifice Dissolves” today through 20 Buck Spin, on vinyl, CD and digital. It’s the Montreal trio’s second album and follows “Lower Form Resistance”, from January 2024.
The line-up is Claude Leduc on guitar and vocals, Antoine Daigneault on bass and Phillipe Boucher on drums, all three with work behind them in Chthe’ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation and Incandescence. Laurent Bellemare adds vocals on several tracks.
The band recorded the bulk of the album themselves; Xavier Berthiaume cut part of it at Productions Tehom, and Hugues Deslauriers reamped, mixed and mastered it at Roarrrsoundsstudio. The cover is by Noah Cutter Meihoff, who has worked for Ghost and Imperial Triumphant.
The label places the record somewhere between Voivod, Vektor, Watchtower, Atheist and Cynic, and points to “Alloyed” and “Neon Metropolis” as the two tracks where it accelerates hardest. From the Decibel review 20 Buck Spin quotes in its release, the line that serves as the measure is this one: “Complexity is worthless without proper songs.”
