The Jakub Klimiuk Quintet play Jamboree’s Sala 1 on Tuesday 13 October. The venue lists two sets, at seven in the evening and at half past eight, and tickets cost €16, or €12 for club members. It’s a standing show.
The line-up is Kasper Rietkerk on alto saxophone, Klimiuk on guitar, Scottie Thompson on piano, Kinzan on double bass and Luke McCarthy on drums.
Klimiuk is Polish, studied jazz guitar in Gdańsk and arrived in the UK in 2020 on an Erasmus exchange. The quintet came together in London after the debut EP “Reluctance” (2022), and released “(un)balanced” on 1 May 2024, self-released, with saxophonist Mark Lockheart guesting on “Sceptical”. The repertoire they bring now is material written since that record.
The Guardian described “(un)balanced” as “a rare mix of New York edginess and Scandinavian avant-jazz impressionism”. The group play regularly at PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho and the Vortex in London, and have toured through Berlin and Brussels.
